UPDATE:

Thomas Mullins, who was critically injured in a crash on FM 1314 in Conroe Sunday morning, has died.
The unidentified driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. As of Tuesday, police are still trying to locate him.

Source: Sgt. Bob Berry, Conroe Police Department

A head-on collision in Conroe early Sunday left one driver in critical condition and another driver evading law enforcement. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on FM 1314 near Creighton Road when a northbound 1997 Ford Explorer collided with a 1998 Honda sedan.
“Apparently the Explorer crossed into the oncoming lane,” said Sgt. Jon Buckholtz of the Conroe Police Department.
The Honda’s driver, Conroe resident Thomas Mullins, was critically injured, but the unidentified driver of the SUV fled into a nearby wooded area on foot in unknown condition.
River Plantation and Conroe Fire Departments worked together to free Mullins from the twisted wreckage of his car. Mullins then went into cardiac arrest, Buckholtz said, but was revived and transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center by Montgomery County EMS. Mullins was then transported by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

Meanwhile, Conroe Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office searched the wooded area around the crash site for the other driver using not only lights and manpower, but heat signature / night vision equipment as well.
“We’re not as concerned about the other driver as a suspect as we are concerned that he might be injured or may have died,” Buckholtz said.
After a lengthy and intense effort produced no results, CPD called for assistance from the Houston Police Department who flew over the area in a helicopter that was also equipped with heat signature / night vision equipment. Like the officers on the ground, HPD officers searching by air found no one.
As of 6 a.m., the scene was cleared, but CPD officers were still searching for the second driver.
