One Ant Versus the Heavens (Ant Cultivation Quest) Original (2024)

Another big dump of Q&A details for perusal, this time split off into topics:

Q: >[Breakthrough Chambers]< was my calculations about right?
20 progress for T1 ---> 40 for T2 ---> 60 for T3, etc
A: It increases by 10 each time not 20

Q: Was there any overflow on Nursing the Dancer's Ice Malaise btw? Rolled 365
A: Not for full shake actions
That is the down side there. The Queen spends the full shake on it
Like that is kind of the whole point both IC and OOC
I am rewarding only having to process one action by making it more effective
But on the other hand I am only processing one action
I'm not doing a day by day breakdown

Q: just to check, does transforming the forest into a new type have a higher chance of happening if we do something with the Deer when the event triggers?
A: Not at this point

Q: >[Rocky Carapace]< Does this mean we can improve our chitin/carapace with Earth Qi = directly increase our HP?
A: Not as an action. It would be a passive increase.

Q: passive increase from going up in cultivation stages?
A: Yes

Q: can we teach both the Legionnaire and the Dancer with the same action?
A: Yes, but it will be less effective

Q: is the Dancer not trading with the deer anymore?
A: She is, but it doesn't take much of her time

Q: can we have the Dancer teach the Legionnaire the techniques we've taught?
A: No
Honestly I'm about to abstract them out
This game is at heart a simple fun little game for me.
I do not want to spend very long on it each day.
And the more things I have to keep track of every turn the longer it takes.

Q: ah ok so Dancer/Legionnaire are put in the background
A: Yes

Q: does turning off the Earth Inducing aura require an action?
A: No

Q: does the +10 Silk per turn count towards the Overflowing Dantian?
A: Yes

Q: Overflowing Dantian counts as a Body curse?
A: It's more of a permanent thing

Q: ... would we have a higher qi limit if not for the Overflowing Dantian? as you said we'd eventually run out of space for Earth Qi for example, but i'm not sure if this bad event just formalizes that, or imposes an even smaller limit
A: It mostly just formalizes what I already planned

Q: does the 50 qi capacity increase if our cultivation stage rises? since our spiritual organs grow to use more qi
A: Yes

Q: should we get an action to convert/collect fire qi?
A: You don't currently have a standardized way to collect Fire Qi

Q: so we have to figure out how to collect Fire Qi?
A: Yes, though it shouldn't be hard

Q: can we try adding the organs that collect Fire Qi automatically like the Crimson Guard? or would that be too small for a cultivator
A: It would be effectively the same as your old silk glands
It would probably be a bad idea though
Introducing so many different elements as part of your body is not going to have good consequences

Q: is the Queen's Silk Gland a cultivator-only organ? i'm thinking of making a new type of "Weaver" brood that will be able to produce Silk for the Myrmidon Chambers ( specialized intelligent ants)
A: The Queen certainly doesn't know how to get it into a mortal at the moment. It's highly energy dependent.

Q: is Earth Qi antithetical/opposing to Silk Qi?
A: No
It's antithetical to water

Q: i'm just wondering if there's any friction between Earth and Silk since they're supposed to be about hardness/softness respectively
A: Not in that way no

Q: does Ash have friction with Silk element?
A: If it did you wouldn't have gotten both elements

Q: did the Burning Scout mention if the Queen that made the Crimson Guard + Fire Spitters for her was Body Tempering?
A: She didn't

Q: does the Queen get the impression that the design of the Crimson Guard is the work of a Body Tempering cultivator? since it seems very sophisticated
A: You keep asking about Body Tempering, but it's not something that's just going to show up in a technique
It could be Body Tempering or it could be a Qi Gathering cultivator who put a lot of time into it. Like the Queen did with formations

Q: fair, i just got the impression that Body Tempering is a major milestone where you could do a lot more modifications that a Qi Gathering can't
A: To yourself yes
That's why it's body tempering

Q: >[Crimson Guard aren't quite as large]< this is just because of the Queen's lesser cultivation stage producing weaker broods, rather than a flaw in the technique right?
A: Yes

Q: just wondering, did the Queen evolving into Myrmidon bloodline early mean we'll grow stronger than the Queens that evolved later?
A: Maybe
Or maybe not
You have a tendency to not focus on the Queen (not cultivating)

Q: is [Knowledge: Qi Ailment treatments] something we can teach?
A: Maybe with a lot of effort
But as noted in the action it involves concepts that the pheromone language doesn't cover

Q: Enlightenment knowledge is a personal experience that cannot be taught right?
A: Most of it isn't even really remembered by the cultivator themselves

Q: just to check, the nest being hard to expand due to the Earth Fortress formation isn't an actual issue right? since i'm pretty sure we've managed to still expand?
A: You've expanded downward
The mortal daughters eventually started piling dirt on top of the nest, but their access is constrained by the tunnels the queen left in the formation
So there's basically a dirt cone, a shell of formation armor, and then a larger dirt cone

Q: is this an issue we need to solve?
A: Not really

Q: >[larger dirt cone]< so we can expand the Earth Fortress again?
A: The cone is not a particularly vital part of the nest

Q: have we received any replies/messengers from the Sisterhood?
A: No

Q: did the Legionnaire bring back any interesting news from the Sisterhood btw?
A: Only really the same sort of thing that the Burning Scout said

Q: does the Legionnaire know if a Wood cultivator will be coming to visit?
A: She isn't sure, but maybe in the next few shakes.

Q: the sect war is still a stalemate right?
A: Yes, that is unlikely to change

Q: did the Legionnaire get to meet Elder Elegant for more lessons on Myrmidons?
A: No

Q: so what exactly was a Blight monster?
A: According to the Legionnaire it was a huge pasty thing on three disjointed legs that tried to burrow into the colony she was staying in at the time.

Q: did the Burning Scout mention any further evolutions after the Myrmidon bloodline? and what stage do most Queens transform into Myrmidons?
A: Most Queens don't do anything related to their bloodline until Body Tempering
She didn't say anything about more advanced forms of Myrmidon

Q: does this mean not even the Fungus cultivator has made a 100% self-sufficient fungus?
A: You are asking a lot from a bunch of 5 year olds

Q: so just to check, even the Fungus cultivator has only been able to push as far as 1/3 farmers with their fungus?
A: Yes

Q: Was the Mushroom Queen a body tempering cultivator?
A: Yes

Q: what cultivation kata did the Burning Scout use?
A: Flaming Rush Kata

Q: did the Legionnaire learn new types of cultivation katas from the Sisterhood?
A: No
In general most ants do not desire to learn lots of different things
They will spend their free time refining what they already have

Q: gotcha, so i guess most Sisterhood cultivators have developed their own versions of cultivation kata? just wondering if there's a more advanced cultivation kata being taught in the Sisterhood, or if each cultivator develops their own version
A: The Steadfast Ant kata is the most widely used version
Cultivators will generally develop a more highly personalized version
But noone has come up with a better default yet

Q: do we know how many different types of Qi a Sisterhood cultivator has access to usually?
A: Theoretically as many as she likes. But most Queens stick to 2-3 specialties

Q: did the process of healing the Dancer alter the Ice Qi into Snowmelt Qi? or was it always Snowmelt from the very start of the issue?
A: It fused the two energies into Snowmelt

Q: if the bad event hadn't triggered and caused the Ice Malaise, i assume the Dancer would have advanced to 3rd molt normally, without the new type of Qi?
A: Yes

Q: >[carapace looks harder]< did the Legionnaire find some Metal to attune herself to Metal Qi alignment?
A: She was already Metal aligned. She just got more of it.

Main takeaways:
- Breakthrough Chambers increase by 10 progress per tier = 20 required for T1 ---> 30 required for T2 ---> 40 required for T3, etc.
- There won't be progress overflow for Shake Actions if they get completed early and don't have further steps. However, you can still get default overflow into making Myrmidons if it was a day-by-day action.
- We cannot have our Daughters teach each other, and the Queen teaching both Daughters at the same time is less effective.
- QM is not tracking our Daughter's actions closely - they will be abstracted into the background soon.
- The max capacity of 50 Qi from Overflowing Dantian will increase if our cultivation rises (matching our spiritual organs using more Qi).
- We don't have a proper method to produce Fire Qi yet, it still needs to be refined/researched.
- Silk Glands are highly Qi dependent and difficult to adapt to mortal ants.
- Crimson Guard weren't as large and well developed because we have weaker cultivation than whichever Queen created the originals.
- Most Queens don't attempt to upgrade their bloodline until Body Tempering (prioritizing cultivation first).
- Even the Mushroom Queen (Body Tempering cultivator) has only managed to create a fungus that supports 1/3 farmer population, trying to go 100% self-sufficient is a pipe dream currently.
- Most Queens stick to 2-3 Qi specialties.
- Most cultivators develop their own personalized cultivation kata from the baseline Steadfast Kata - a better default than Steadfast Kata hasn't been developed.
- In general most ants do not desire to learn lots of different things. They will spend their free time refining what they already have.

So unfortunately @Toboe, getting the Dancer to teach her sister isn't workable - it's unneeded complexity that the QM isn't keen on tracking. This is also why I mentioned to @Walliseatscheese a while ago that large-scale collaboration in the Sisterhood is not gonna work without some way to simplify the mechanical complexity it would require - QM wants to keep this quest relatively simple, and tracking dozens of "players" working together quickly gets complicated.

Walliseatscheese said:

Can we slip a Shake of Cultivating in there, to both make sure we don't calcify and to start poking away at our next molt?

Sure, I'll slip in a cultivation shake at the end there.
