to 10 p.m. St. Ed wins -programs com computer? By Dan Coughlin St. Edward High School's granite defense registered its sixth shutout of the season and may have put the Eagles in the computer playoffs for the second straight year Friday night. St.

Ed's subdued neighborhood rival Lakewood, 10-0, in their regular-season football finale, marking the Eagles' cighth straight victory over Lakewood since their rivalry began in 1969. St. Ed's, which averaged only 9.5 points per game this year, finished its regular season with a 9-1 record on the strength of a defense which allowed only 45 points for a school record. This is the fourth straight year and fifth in the last six that the Eagles have won at least nine games. What St.

Ed's is praying for now is a chance to win two more by qualifying for the playoffs and it appears the prayers were answered. As a result of Parma's stunning upset at the hands of Garfield Heights Friday night, Valley Forge and St. Edward remain the final two candidates to represent northeastern Ohio region in the playoffs which begin next Friday. A computer analysis of the strength of schedules will determine the playoff teams. That makes Valley Forge's 2 p.m.

game today at Shaker Heights one of the most important of the year. A Valley Forge victory would keep the Patriots within a fraction of the Eagles according to preliminary calculations. As a result of games played Friday night, St. Ed's has 156.95 computer points. If Valley Forge wins today, it will have 156.85 points.

These figures include games of all other teams on the two teams' schedules except today's St. Ignatius-South and Latin-Benedictine games, which could increase St. Edward's total. "It's too close to call. as Walter Cronkite would say," remarked St.

Ed's first-year head coach Dan Flaherty, who almost completely Chagrin Falls whips Kent Junior quarterback Bob Bistritz completed five of seven passes for 132 yards to pace the Chagrin Falls Tigers to a 12-0 victory over visiting Kent Roosevelt in independent football Friday night. Scott Rudolph's first quarter interception led to the game's first score to spark the Tigers, who finished 7-2-1 for the season. Kent Roosevelt ended the year, 7- 3. Host Manchester defeated Chardon 26-8 as senior fullback Dan Chagrin Valley Hickman scored twice. Backfield mate Kelly Dodson picked up 127 yards rushing the All-Ohio Conference co champs, who finished, 8- 1-1 The loss was Chardon's seventh in 10 tries.

fourth Kramer Kenston down on the stopped play one-foot with Wickliffe's 55 line seconds on Cliff a remaining to defeat the Blue Devils, 7-0 Curlin Beck paced the winners, now 64 with 154 yards rushing. Wickliffe dropped to 5-4-1 Senior tailback Andy Slodov rushed for 158 yards in 31 carries as Orange destroyed Gilmour, 42-0. Jeff Leikin added 123 yards for the Lions, who raised their record to 7- 2-1. Gilmour finished with an 0-9-1 record. Senior linebacker Rod Vitz blocked a Nordonia punt late in the third quarter to turn a sce-saw battle into a 26-20 Solon victory.

The Comets, 7-3, were trailing 20- 13 at the start of the final period, but came to life following the blocked punt. Nordonia finished the campaign at 2-7-1. Host Twinsburg defeated Crestwood 14-7 as Tim Jilek raced 58 vards in the second quarter for the deciding touchdown. Twinsburg finished the season, 4-6, while Crestwood ended at 5-5. JFK stuns Bay, 12-2 Senior Kenneth Agee ran for 130 yards and both touchdowns as East Senate champion John F.

Kennedy High stunned host Bay Village of the Southwestern Conference, 12-2, Friday night. Agee galloped 69 yards for one score, five for another, and had an 85-yard TD scamper called back on a penalty. Bay's only points came on a fourth-quarter safety when Kennedy, pinned deep in its own territory, purposely downed the ball in the end zone to gain a free kick. Newbury falls Newbury was shut out by Garrettsville Garfield, 37-0, dropping the Black Knights' record to 2- 7-1.
